Bhopal, February 24: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi visited Bhopal on Tuesday. They are leading a significant protest against the US-India trade deal, termed ‘Kisan Maha Chaupal’ by the Congress party.
Congress leader Pawan Khera stated, “This is our first Maha Chaupal in Madhya Pradesh. The second will take place in Yavatmal, Maharashtra. The Prime Minister hastily agreed to the trade deal out of fear from the United States. Everyone was aware that the US Supreme Court’s decision was due on February 20, yet he called Trump on February 2 to reach an agreement. This decision has caused severe damage to our farmers, and it is crucial to raise awareness about it. India has become a colony of the US. Today, we send a message from Madhya Pradesh that the Prime Minister is harming the country.”
Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari added, “Farmers are the backbone of this nation. As an agrarian country, the majority of our population is linked to agriculture. The government has deceived farmers through three agricultural laws and attempted to hand over control to foreigners. They tried to implement the Land Acquisition Act and failed to fulfill promises regarding MSP. Madhya Pradesh produces the highest soybean, cotton, and maize, yet not a single crop is sold at MSP. Since the announcement of the trade deal’s clarity, prices have dropped by up to 30%, affecting our farmers. The state’s Chief Minister has announced the purchase of mustard and urad at MSP. However, I challenge the country’s Agriculture Minister to name one crop that is sold at MSP.”
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, met an injured auto-rickshaw driver on his way to Bhopal and inquired about his well-being.
