Chandigarh, May 17: Congress leader Pawan Bansal has responded critically to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments expressing concern over global conditions and warning that failing to take swift action could jeopardize past achievements. Bansal noted that at least Modi acknowledged the accomplishments of previous decades.
In an interview, Bansal stated, “It’s a relief that PM Modi referred to achievements from past decades, not just the last ten years. Previously, it was often claimed that nothing existed in India before 2014. For the first time, I see him acknowledging work done before that, indicating that progress has been made to strengthen the nation.”
Bansal described Modi’s statements as disappointing, asserting that the Prime Minister is aware of the current state of the country. He emphasized, “We need to recognize what is happening in India. The depreciation of the rupee is evident to everyone. Unemployment has surged alarmingly, with many graduates left jobless. We are now witnessing a new pattern of NEET paper leaks.”
He accused Modi of admitting that the situation has spiraled out of control under his leadership. “Now that there are no elections on the horizon, he has started discussing these issues,” Bansal remarked. He suggested that all political parties should unite to address the crisis from a national perspective, and the government should seek input from the opposition.
Regarding the NEET controversy, Bansal supported Rahul Gandhi’s demand for the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, stating, “Rahul has raised a valid point. Such incidents have occurred in 2024 as well, but if we tally the number of exam papers leaked from various state and central agencies in recent years, the count would reach into the hundreds. It is wrong to jeopardize students’ futures. They study hard and endure immense stress.”
Bansal expressed confidence in Congress’s decision to contest all seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections. “We are competing vigorously in every constituency and are confident of a strong performance. According to feedback from our colleagues and workers, the party has performed well,” he stated.
He affirmed that Congress is entering the elections with the goal of winning, and the results will reflect positively on the party. This move showcases Congress’s independent strength.
In response to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s comments labeling PM Modi as a terrorist, Bansal clarified, “He did not call him a terrorist. What he said was that opponents are being intimidated. We have numerous examples of this.”
