Congress Faces Disappointment as Rajya Sabha Candidates Nomination is Rejected in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, June 13: The Congress party, which has been out of power in Madhya Pradesh for a long time, is striving to strengthen its organization and motivate grassroots workers. However, setbacks continue to hinder its progress. The recent rejection of party candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections has left party workers deeply disheartened, especially after the Election Commission and the Supreme Court dismissed their appeals.

Looking back at the state’s political landscape, there was a time in the past two and a half decades when Congress had the opportunity to govern. Unfortunately, internal conflicts prevented the government from completing its term. Despite losing power, the internal dynamics of Congress have not changed significantly, although the party did undergo a leadership change following its defeat in the 2023 assembly elections.

The recent developments have dealt a significant blow to Congress. With three Rajya Sabha seats up for grabs, it was anticipated that the BJP would secure two candidates based on its majority, with Congress expected to win one seat. The BJP has already submitted nominations for its two candidates, Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Agarwal. Congress then nominated Meenakshi Natarajan as its candidate.

However, internal strife within Congress began to surface, and the BJP introduced Mahesh Kevat as a third candidate. This situation raised concerns for Congress. In response, the party planned to transport its legislators to Karnataka, while several Congress MLAs began contacting state president Hemant Khandelwal, leading the BJP to believe that its third candidate would secure victory.

Amidst this turmoil, a significant error occurred in Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination; a case registered in Telangana was not disclosed, resulting in the rejection of her nomination papers. The party approached both the Election Commission and the Supreme Court but faced no success. This turn of events has energized the BJP, which even celebrated a victory at its state office. Meanwhile, a sense of deep disappointment has engulfed Congress workers, with questions arising about whether this was indeed an oversight or a conspiracy within the party itself. The BJP has been propagating the narrative that Congress anticipated defeat and orchestrated the nomination’s rejection.
