New Delhi, February 16: Congress leader and former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar is making headlines once again due to his controversial statements. This time, his remarks regarding Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan have left the Congress party feeling uneasy.

During a recent address at the Kerala government’s Vision 2031 International Conference on Development and Democracy in Thiruvananthapuram, Aiyar stated that Kerala is the only state in India that has progressed along the path laid out by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He also expressed confidence that Chief Minister Vijayan would retain his position in the upcoming assembly elections.

However, the Congress party quickly distanced itself from Aiyar’s comments. Party leader Pawan Khera labeled Aiyar’s statements as personal opinions, asserting that he has had no connection with Congress for several years. Khera took to social media platform X to repost an article, stating, “Mani Shankar Aiyar has no relation with Congress in recent years. He speaks and writes purely in his personal capacity.”

Aiyar’s remarks have sparked discussions, particularly as he noted the irony of Kerala being governed by the Marxist-Leninist party (CPI(M)) while still following Gandhi’s principles. He remarked, “I don’t know if this is praise or insult,” but he firmly believes that Pinarayi Vijayan will be the next Chief Minister.

In Kerala, Congress serves as the main opposition party, while CPI(M) has been in power for two consecutive terms and is expected to maintain its hold in the upcoming elections. The party’s response to Aiyar’s comments underscores the ongoing tensions within Congress regarding its stance in the state.
