Iranian President Thanks Iraqis for Support During Conflict

Tehran, March 31: Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian expressed gratitude to the Iraqi people for their support during the conflict. He stated that the Iraqi public stood firmly with Iran throughout this struggle.

In a statement released on social media, he noted that Iraq has bravely stood shoulder to shoulder with Iran in this unjust conflict. This support stems not only from geographical reasons but also from shared history, identity, and religious values.

Footage shared online by Iranian and Iraqi media outlets over the weekend showed a convoy of Hashd al-Shaabi, also known as the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), entering Iran. Iranian media labeled this as “the first convoy of humanitarian aid from the people of Iraq.”

Recently, Iraq has also become involved in this conflict. Since the onset of attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, violence in the country has resulted in the deaths of 10 to 12 individuals.

The Iran-aligned factions associated with the PMF, which operate both within and outside the government, have launched drone and rocket attacks on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, American military bases in Iraq, and U.S.-linked sites in Iraqi Kurdistan, such as hotels.

Last week, the PMF claimed that Washington was responsible for attacks on an Iraqi military base and PMF headquarters, which resulted in the deaths of Iraqi security officials. Such attacks, even if targeting Iran-aligned PMF factions, are likely to result in casualties among Iraqi soldiers, given the close coordination and cooperation between the Iraqi army and the PMF.

Although Washington has not claimed responsibility for these attacks, the Iraqi Prime Minister has instructed the Foreign Ministry to summon the U.S. Charge d’Affaires.
