Bareilly, June 8: Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, has expressed deep concern regarding the Varanasi district administration’s decision to relocate meat shops outside the city. He stated that this move threatens the livelihoods of many local residents.
In an interview with a news agency, Maulana Razvi highlighted that the Varanasi administration has ordered approximately 450 meat and fish vendors to shift their businesses outside the city. This decision could jeopardize the income of not only these vendors but also the two to four workers employed at each shop.
He warned that such actions could push these individuals into poverty. While he acknowledged that relocating shops too close to temples might be reasonable, he argued that a blanket decision to move all vendors outside the city is unjust.
On June 6, a meeting chaired by Varanasi Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari took place at the Maidagin Town Hall, where the proposal to relocate meat shops was approved. Following this, Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal announced that five locations near the city’s outer limits have been selected for the first phase of this scheme. He indicated that meat and fish shops currently operating within Varanasi will be transferred to Ramnagar, Sujabad, Ganeshpur, Avleshpur, and Shivpur areas in the coming days.
Maulana Razvi also referenced an incident involving Sajid Yusuf Shah, the media in-charge of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah was reportedly denied accommodation at a hotel in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, allegedly due to his identity as a Kashmiri Muslim.
He questioned, “What kind of hatred is this?” Maulana Razvi emphasized that India is a nation of love, harmony, and brotherhood, where Hindus and Muslims have coexisted for centuries, sharing cultural and historical ties. This diversity and equality are what make India renowned worldwide.
He asserted that if this incident is true, it reflects a deep-seated hatred that needs to be addressed. Maulana Razvi urged individuals of all faiths to maintain mutual respect and brotherhood.
