Mumbai, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Mayor Ritu Tawde of Mumbai recently visited the family of Captain Smrit Machhar, who displayed remarkable bravery during a critical incident aboard a Flydubai flight. The mayor met with Machhar’s family at the residence of his uncle, Kishore Machhar, in Ghatkopar East, to inquire about his health and well-being.
During the visit, Tawde discussed Captain Machhar’s treatment and the improvements in his condition. She expressed her hopes for his swift recovery and long life, assuring the family of the support from the people of Mumbai. The Machhar family resides in Ward Number 132, which Tawde has previously represented as a municipal councilor.
Captain Smrit Machhar was the pilot of a Flydubai flight traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when he was attacked by his co-pilot in the cockpit. Despite sustaining serious injuries, Machhar managed to open the cockpit door, allowing others to intervene and control the situation. The aircraft was safely landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
In a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Machhar recounted the harrowing experience. He initially thought there was a severe technical issue when he was struck from behind. It became clear he was under attack as he endured repeated blows.
As the attack left him disoriented and the plane descended rapidly, Machhar made a final effort to open the cockpit door, enabling crew members to subdue the assailant. Netanyahu praised Machhar’s courage, declaring him a hero for India, Israel, and the world. He also invited both Machhar and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the upcoming Israeli Independence Day celebrations.
Prime Minister Modi has also spoken with Captain Machhar, commending his bravery and commitment to saving others. Following his serious injuries, Machhar is currently receiving treatment, with reports indicating his health is improving.
