New Delhi, June 1: Ahead of World Environment Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a heartfelt message to the people of the state. He emphasized that trees are not merely natural resources but are vibrant symbols of divinity, life, knowledge, health, and public welfare. CM Yogi urged everyone to pledge to protect nature, enhance water resources, and safeguard trees on this significant day.
In his message to the citizens, the Chief Minister stated, “In our eternal culture, there is a tradition of worshipping trees, mountains, rivers, and living beings. The Vedas consider the worship of nature as a direct form of worship of God. Various elements of nature, such as fire, air, water, and earth, are regarded as divine. The occasion of World Environment Day on June 5 should not merely be an annual formality but a testament to our collective gratitude towards nature.”
In a message shared on the social media platform ‘X’, he highlighted the three debts described in eternal tradition: the debt to the gods, the sages, and ancestors, emphasizing that the debt to the gods is directly linked to nature. Protecting water, forests, land, and all of creation is the path to repaying this debt. He noted that just days ago, millions of mothers and sisters observed the Vat Savitri fast, showcasing our culture’s deep ties to nature. Festivals like Chhath and the Kumbh Mela are symbols of this intangible faith.
The Chief Minister remarked that today, the commitment to tree planting, water conservation, and the rejuvenation of rivers is more crucial than ever. “Water is life” is not just a phrase; it encapsulates the essence of life. Our sensitivity towards ecology is evidenced by the fact that Uttar Pradesh now has 12 Ramsar sites, including the Shekha Lake Bird Sanctuary. The success of the state’s “One District, One River” initiative demonstrates that when society and governance collaborate, nature can be preserved.
CM Yogi called upon the youth of the state, saying, “They (the youth) should become a strong foundation for water conservation, cleanliness, tree planting, and river protection. Youth energy and participation are the greatest strengths for a green and prosperous Uttar Pradesh. Dear children, I urge you to plant a tree every year on your birthday or any special occasion and take care of it.”
He concluded by reiterating that on World Environment Day, we should all commit to protecting nature, enhancing water resources, and safeguarding trees. A safe, clean, and prosperous environment is the foundation of a developed state.
