Kochi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Navy has embarked on a significant defense initiative with the construction of its first Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV). The keel-laying ceremony took place on September 18 at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi.
This event marks the official commencement of building advanced warships equipped with heavy weaponry for the Navy. Vice Admiral Sanjay Sadhu, the Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition, was the chief guest at the ceremony, which was attended by senior officials from both the Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard.
The contract for the NGMV project was signed in March 2023 with Cochin Shipyard Limited. These vessels will be outfitted with cutting-edge weapons and sensors, significantly enhancing the Navy’s combat capabilities.
The Navy aims to position itself as a “future-ready and combat-ready force,” and these new ships are a crucial step in that direction. Their construction reinforces India’s commitment to developing a robust and modern naval force capable of operating in the complex maritime environment of the Indian Ocean region.
A notable aspect of this project is that all major equipment used will be entirely indigenously developed and manufactured. This showcases the country’s strength and aligns with the Indian government’s initiatives such as “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” “Make in India,” and “Make for the World.”
The Next Generation Missile Vessel will elevate the Indian Navy’s strike capabilities. These ships will not only be equipped for rapid response against threats but will also enhance maritime security. Their construction at Cochin Shipyard symbolizes India’s self-reliance in shipbuilding.
