Lucknow, 2 January: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a review meeting on Friday morning regarding the expenditure of the budget allocated to various departments for the financial year 2025-26. The Finance Department presented the updated progress of approvals issued by the government, allocations by department heads, and expenditure, focusing on the top 20 departments with significant budget provisions.
CM Yogi reviewed the presentations of these major departments and directed senior officials to ensure the timely utilisation of allocated budgets. He emphasised that projects and schemes should be completed on schedule so that residents of the state can benefit without delay. Officials must develop the capacity to make prompt decisions to ensure budget expenditure within the stipulated time.
The Chief Minister pointed out that departments with slow budget expenditure progress should accelerate their efforts. He instructed that accountability and responsibility be assigned at every level to avoid any negligence. Officers must take immediate decisions to implement schemes effectively on the ground.
He stressed that delays in decision-making hinder timely budget spending and urged officials to act swiftly. CM Yogi also asked departmental ministers and officials to hold monthly coordination meetings to address slow expenditure in some departments.
Further, the Finance Department was directed to release pending budget allocations to departments without delay. CM Yogi instructed officials of the top 20 departments receiving budget funds from the central government to actively follow up in Delhi through meetings, letters, and phone calls. The Chief Secretary has also been tasked with incentivising these efforts.
The CM’s office will identify departments with slow budget expenditure and send letters to their respective ministers to ensure accountability.
Regarding the upcoming financial year 2026-27, the Finance Department was asked to begin preparations immediately. They must review budget demands in consultation with all departments and assess expenditure patterns from the previous five years before allocating new budgets.
CM Yogi emphasised improving coordination with the central government to secure timely budget releases.
