Lucknow, May 12: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged the residents of Uttar Pradesh to heed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call. He emphasized the need to reduce fuel consumption and refrain from unnecessary purchases of gold. CM Yogi encouraged citizens to adopt the Prime Minister’s message practically within the state.
During a meeting with the Chief Secretary, DGP, and all Additional Chief Secretaries/Principal Secretaries of various departments, CM Yogi directed an immediate 50% reduction in the fleet of the Chief Minister and ministers. He called for the removal of unnecessary vehicles from convoys and stressed the importance of promoting a work-from-home culture in the state. The use of PNG, metro, public transport, and buses from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation was particularly highlighted. The Chief Minister also emphasized conducting government meetings, seminars, conferences, and workshops virtually.
In light of global circumstances, he appealed to citizens to connect with the Prime Minister’s call. He noted the current turmoil in the world and stressed the need for caution. States must be prepared to follow the Prime Minister’s directives.
CM Yogi suggested that ministers, MPs, MLAs, and public representatives use public transport at least one day a week. He proposed a “No Vehicle Day” each week, involving government employees and students from schools and colleges. The Industrial Development Department and IIDC should encourage work-from-home practices in industrial institutions and large startups. For workplaces with a significant number of employees, an advisory will be issued at the state level recommending work-from-home for two days a week.
The Education Department’s seminars, meetings, and workshops should also be conducted virtually. Additionally, 50% of internal meetings at the state secretariat/directorate should be held online. Schools and colleges should promote the use of school buses, and if necessary, transport corporation buses should be linked to schools. Office hours may be staggered to reduce fuel use during peak hours.
The Chief Minister emphasized the use of public transport, cycling, carpooling, and electric vehicles. He urged residents in cities with metro services to utilize them to the fullest. Public transport services, including buses, should be increased on high-demand routes. He also appealed for energy conservation, urging that unnecessary electricity use be minimized in government buildings, homes, and private establishments. Decorative lights in private establishments should be kept to a minimum after 10 PM.
He encouraged the promotion of public cycling-sharing schemes and requested citizens to avoid non-essential foreign travel for the next six months. CM Yogi urged citizens and wedding planners to host events within the country, highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s heritage, eco-sites, and forts as ideal locations for destination weddings. A “Visit My State” campaign should be launched to promote wellness, eco, rural, wildlife, and culinary tourism. Uttar Pradesh is the first state to implement the “One District, One Cuisine” initiative. The Chief Minister directed that museums and monuments be made free for a limited time.
The Tourism Department should hold meetings with hotels, airlines, tour operators, and travel agents to provide necessary guidance. He encouraged expatriates from Uttar Pradesh to visit the state, promoting shopping festivals, heritage tours, and visits to cow shelters and temples. The use of products made by local artisans, self-help groups, and entrepreneurs should be promoted.
During festivals, weddings, and various events, the promotion of Indian-made gifts, products, and handicrafts should be prioritized. The state government will provide ODOP and GI-tagged products as gifts, encouraging the use of indigenous products. The Chief Minister urged residents to reduce the use of cooking oil, emphasizing its importance for health, domestic savings, and reducing import dependency. Awareness campaigns should be conducted through drama series.
The Health Department will organize nutrition awareness camps and conduct extensive outreach. Schools, colleges, districts, private hospitals, medical colleges, government canteens, mid-day meal programs, jails, hostels, and police messes should focus on reducing oil use in food items. Local administrative officials should engage with unions of hotels, sweet shops, restaurants, dhabas, and street food vendors to promote low-oil food options.
CM Yogi directed the Agriculture Department to promote natural farming. With around 1.4 to 1.5 million cattle in the state’s cow shelters, their dung should also be utilized. He emphasized the importance of farmer registration and urged citizens to avoid unnecessary gold purchases. The administration should meet with local jewelers’ associations and traders to address their concerns.
