Beijing, February 19: The Chinese Ministry of Transport has announced that the number of travelers moving between various regions is expected to exceed 210 million during the Spring Festival travel season. Since the start of this year’s festivities, there has been a consistent increase in inter-regional passenger movement. To ensure safe and smooth travel for passengers, the ministry has implemented several measures.

On February 17, it is estimated that approximately 6.1 million passengers will be transported by rail across the country, with plans to operate 281 special passenger trains. Many locations are also running tourist special trains to meet local tourism demands during the Spring Festival. Notably, 22 new railway lines and over 50 new railway stations, including the Xiangqin High-Speed Railway, Baoyin High-Speed Railway, and Xi’an High-Speed Railway, are participating in the travel season for the first time, significantly enhancing transportation capacity.

In addition to increasing transportation capacity, intelligent security screening equipment has been installed at several major stations to efficiently handle the large number of passengers. At Beijing Railway Station, these intelligent devices have reduced the inspection time per luggage item from 6 seconds to just 2 seconds.

To ensure the safe travel of vulnerable passengers such as the elderly and children, many stations are providing ‘point-to-point’ connecting services.

On the road, vehicle traffic began to increase on February 17, with a continuous rise in the flow of new energy vehicles. It is estimated that the daily average flow of new energy vehicles during the Spring Festival holiday will reach 12 million, accounting for approximately 22% of the total daily flow. Charging services at various locations are being continuously improved to reduce long queues for charging during the holidays.

In terms of air travel, around 2.23 million passengers are expected to be transported by civil aviation across the country on February 17, with an increase in passenger numbers on popular tourist routes. Several new airports and terminals, including Guangzhou Baiyun and Sanya Phoenix, are participating in the Spring Festival travel for the first time. Automated tools for intelligent check-in, baggage inspection, and security checks have significantly improved passenger movement efficiency.
