Kolkata, April 2: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has given spinner Shivang Kumar his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.
Born on May 26, 2002, Shivang hails from Madhya Pradesh. The left-arm wrist spinner began his List-A career in December 2025. He has played three List-A matches for Madhya Pradesh, taking 10 wickets at an average of 14.30.
In addition to his bowling skills, Shivang is a decent batsman. He scored 67 runs in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match on January 6 of this year. On January 8, 2026, he took 5 wickets for 45 runs in 10 overs against Karnataka. He has also played four T20 matches, claiming four wickets.
During the IPL 2026 mini-auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired Shivang Kumar for a base price of ₹3 million. His debut in such a significant tournament with just seven matches of experience indicates that the team management sees great potential in him.
During the toss on Thursday, SRH captain Ishan Kishan praised Shivang, stating, “We have included Shivang in the team to keep our wicket-taking options open. He has bowled well in the nets, and we are giving him a chance.”
KKR won the toss and invited SRH to bat first. KKR made no changes to their playing eleven, while SRH included Shivang Kumar as a bowler.
Under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, KKR featured Cameron Green, Ankrish Raghuwanshi (wicketkeeper), Rinku Singh, Raman Deep Singh, Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, and Blessing Muzarabani in this match.
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan’s Sunrisers Hyderabad lineup included Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Aniket Verma, Salil Arora, Harsh Dubey, Shivang Kumar, David Payne, and Jaydev Unadkat.
