Beijing, May 8: The Chinese Ministry of Finance has announced a significant increase in funding for early childhood education. For the year 2026, the ministry has allocated 45.8 billion yuan, which is 12.56 billion yuan, or approximately 38 percent, more than the previous year.
This initiative aims to assist local governments in effectively implementing the kindergarten education fee waiver policy. Additionally, it seeks to address the shortage of inclusive educational resources, enhance the quality of care and education, and strengthen the financial support system for children from economically disadvantaged families.
According to reports, during the “14th Five-Year Plan” (2021-2025), the central government allocated a total of 126.2 billion yuan for the development of kindergarten education. Starting from the autumn session of 2025, fees for the first-year children in government-run kindergarten centers will be waived. Similarly, eligible children attending private kindergartens will also receive similar fee exemptions or waivers.
Data indicates that this policy has benefited over 14 million children and has reduced family education expenses by more than 20 billion yuan.
