New Delhi, August 3: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai met with Commonwealth Games medalist Gyaneshwari Yadav on Monday. She won a silver medal in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting event in Glasgow. The Chief Minister announced a cash reward of ₹30 lakhs and an out-of-turn promotion to the rank of DSP for the Indian weightlifter in recognition of her remarkable achievement.
On the social media platform ‘X’, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai expressed, “Today at the Chief Minister’s residence, we warmly welcomed and honored our talented daughter Gyaneshwari Yadav, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026. In her very first Commonwealth Games, Gyaneshwari has elevated the pride of Chhattisgarh and the nation by winning a silver medal in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting event. Her achievement serves as a powerful inspiration for our daughters and youth.”
While announcing the promotion for Gyaneshwari Yadav, the Chief Minister stated, “In honor of her outstanding performance, we have announced a cash incentive of ₹30 lakhs and an out-of-turn promotion to the rank of DSP. The state government is committed to providing every possible opportunity, resource, and encouragement to sports talents. We believe that Gyaneshwari will continue to elevate the name of India and Chhattisgarh to new heights on the global stage.”
It is noteworthy that Gyaneshwari Yadav secured a silver medal for the country at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The Indian weightlifter showcased an impressive performance by lifting a total of 199 kg (88 kg in snatch and 111 kg in clean and jerk), earning her the second position on the podium. This was her best performance to date in both total weight and clean and jerk.
In this weight category, Nigeria’s Didih Onome Omolola won the gold medal by lifting a total of 206 kg (93 kg snatch + 113 kg clean and jerk), while Canada’s Rebecca Grolux claimed the bronze medal with a total of 178 kg.
