Mumbai, September 2: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold a crucial review meeting on Thursday at its headquarters in Mumbai. All officials, including head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and the head of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) VVS Laxman, are expected to attend.
BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia had previously stated that a detailed review meeting would take place after India’s tour of England concluded on July 19. This meeting was initially called to discuss the losses in the T20 International series against England and Ireland, as well as the ODI series against England. However, it was postponed due to the T20 International tour of Zimbabwe and the Test series in Sri Lanka, both of which India won, 3-0 and 1-0, respectively.
Sources familiar with the meeting’s agenda revealed that this high-level meeting is finally set for Thursday. “Yes, a meeting is scheduled for September 3. All top officials of the board and other relevant members will arrive in Mumbai by tonight. The discussion will mainly focus on the recent results of the senior men’s team and a review of what went right and what went wrong,” the source stated.
The discussion will also address concerns regarding injuries to several players, including Hardik Pandya, and future plans for significant tournaments such as the New Zealand multi-format tour, the domestic Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, and the Men’s ODI World Cup 2027.
The team announced for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan clearly reflects challenges related to the senior men’s team’s fitness. This series will take place from September 13-17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, with Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Harshit Rana temporarily included.
Despite a remarkable victory in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on home soil, Pandya’s exclusion from the team remains a significant concern for those associated with the Indian team. However, he is considered a crucial player for the Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 campaign, although ongoing injury issues have raised questions about his workload capacity as a fast-bowling all-rounder in a one-day match.
Meanwhile, former Indian captain and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly will attend the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 18 at the board headquarters in Mumbai.
According to the draft voter list reviewed by the AGM, 31 out of 35 state units will be represented. Elections will be held to select two representatives for the IPL Governing Council. Four state associations—Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Bihar—will not participate in this meeting due to unspecified administrative issues.
In addition to Ganguly, former players Venkatesh Prasad (currently the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association) and Saurabh Tiwari (currently the secretary of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association) will also be present. Jaydev Shah, head of the Saurashtra Cricket Association and former captain of Saurashtra, will join as well. The Maharashtra Cricket Association will be represented by court-appointed administrator Govinda, while the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) will be represented by President Rohan Jaitley.
