Chandrababu Naidu Seeks Financial Support from Amit Shah for Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi, May 12: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday, urging the central government to approve funds for various centrally sponsored schemes and fulfill past commitments made to the state.

During his visit to New Delhi, Naidu held separate discussions with Amit Shah and Union Minister of Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil. He requested the Home Minister to address issues arising from the state’s bifurcation and to approve funding for several pending projects.

Naidu also appealed for additional support for the state’s development beyond the allocations made in the current central budget.

In his meeting with Minister Patil, Naidu emphasized the need to resolve critical issues related to the Polavaram project. He stressed the importance of completing this prestigious project before the Godavari Pushkaram in 2027.

According to an official statement, Naidu highlighted the necessity of completing civil works to facilitate water storage of up to 41.15 meters in the first phase of the project.

He urged the Union Minister to permanently lift the “work stoppage order” issued in 2011, citing the pending status of public surveys in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Naidu clarified that rescinding this order would allow the Polavaram project to progress without hindrance.

The Chief Minister informed the central minister that, considering irrigation needs, the carrying capacity of both the right and left canals has been increased to 17,500 cusecs, exceeding the originally planned capacity. He noted that 95% of the work on the right canal and 78% on the left canal has been completed.

Naidu requested reimbursement of funds related to this increase in canal capacity and sought approval for the necessary funding for the next phases of the project.
