Chandigarh, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : A Chandigarh court has delayed the hearing on a defamation complaint filed by Gurpreet Kaur, the wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, until October 17. The court’s decision came during a session on Wednesday, where it was determined that the complainant’s evidence would be recorded at the next hearing.
The complaint targets several political figures, including senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Congress leader Sukhpinder Singh Khaira, and Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Gurpreet Kaur alleges that the defendants issued false and defamatory statements against her through press conferences, social media posts, videos, photographs, CCTV footage, and graphic content.
According to the complaint, this material was maliciously disseminated, significantly harming her reputation and dignity in the eyes of the public. Gurpreet Kaur is seeking legal action for criminal defamation and appropriate relief from the court.
The next hearing is now scheduled for October 17, 2026, where the complainant’s evidence will be presented. Earlier, on September 5, Harsimrat Kaur Badal led a protest from the women’s wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal, demanding the registration of an FIR against Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Kaur. Gurpreet Kaur has faced allegations of extorting ₹5 crore to suppress a rape case, which she has vehemently denied as baseless.
