New Delhi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : New Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled the special finisher medal for the 21st edition of the Delhi Half Marathon on Wednesday at the Delhi Secretariat. This prestigious event, recognized as a “World Athletics Gold Label Race,” is set to kick off on Sunday from the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, attracting thousands of runners from India and around the globe.
CM Gupta emphasized the significance of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, highlighting its focus on health, fitness, and increased participation from women. She stated, “This event has become a crucial initiative for the national capital, inspiring participants and the community alike. The Delhi government is committed to supporting its success.”
Crafted from high-quality zinc sourced from the renowned Jawar Mines in Udaipur, the finisher medal is more than just a memento of race day. Kapil Mishra, Delhi’s Minister for Labour, Employment, and Tourism, remarked, “The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon has evolved into an annual event that unites people from across the country and the world. The Delhi government and tourism department are fully dedicated to promoting such sports events, which enhance Delhi’s status as a tourist destination. We are excited to make the October 18 event a grand success.”
Continuing a beloved tradition, the 2026 finisher medal symbolizes India’s rich natural heritage and each runner’s personal journey. Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc Limited and Non-Executive Director of Vedanta Limited, noted, “This medal represents strength, resilience, and endurance, tied to our campaign ‘Run for Zero Hunger.’ Every kilometer run contributes to a greater cause—supporting nutrition for needy children and animals, while encouraging a healthier, more active, and compassionate future for all.”
Registration for the half marathon closed within a record 100 hours, marking the fastest in the event’s history. The “Great Delhi Run,” “Champions with Disability,” and “Senior Citizen Run” also received overwhelming responses, showcasing the growing passion for fitness and running in the city. This event has transformed into a celebration that brings people together for movement, participation, and purpose.
