Mumbai, March 10: Some films leave an indelible mark on audiences, remaining cherished long after their release. Actress Shilpa Shirodkar recently shared her nostalgic memories as her iconic film ‘Kishan Kanhaiya’ celebrated its 36th anniversary.
On this special occasion, Shilpa took to Instagram to post an old poster of the film, featuring her alongside actors Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. She captioned the post, “Even though so many years have passed since the film’s release, it feels like just yesterday.”
Directed and produced by the renowned filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, ‘Kishan Kanhaiya’ was a blend of comedy and action that captivated audiences at the time. Anil Kapoor showcased his versatility by playing a double role, portraying two distinct characters named Kishan and Kanhaiya.
The film’s narrative revolves around two brothers who are separated at birth. It begins with a woman named Leela, a midwife, who, along with her husband Bhola Ram, longs for children. One day, a wealthy man, Sundarlal, welcomes twins, and Leela, in her desire for a child, keeps one baby, telling Sundarlal that only one was born. Tragically, Sundarlal’s wife dies shortly after childbirth.
Leela and her husband raise the child they named Kanhaiya, while Sundarlal raises his son Kishan alone. Eventually, Sundarlal marries a woman named Kamini, who, along with her brother, schemes to take over their home and property, forcing Kishan to grow up under their tyranny.
Kishan, uneducated and often coerced into signing documents, contrasts sharply with Kanhaiya, who is a film enthusiast living a joyful life. Kanhaiya meets a girl named Anju, and they gradually fall in love. Interestingly, an unspoken emotional bond exists between the two brothers; they can sense each other’s pain.
Later, Kishan falls in love with a girl named Radha, and they marry. Meanwhile, villains plot to seize Kishan’s wealth and plan to eliminate him.
In the climax, Kanhaiya uncovers the truth about his past and returns to his rightful home. Together, the brothers confront the villains.
