New Delhi, July 1: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Deepak Gehlawat, a 2012 batch IPS officer from the Haryana cadre, in connection with a bribery case. Gehlawat is currently on central deputation at the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in Delhi.
According to a press release from the CBI, the case began on June 8, when the agency registered a complaint against Delhi Police Inspector Pradeep Singh and two other individuals.
During the investigation, the CBI discovered that IPS officer Deepak Gehlawat allegedly solicited bribes. He claimed that he could use his influence to provide relief to individuals involved in cases related to the sale of counterfeit drugs in Puducherry, which are under CBI investigation.
The CBI has already arrested six other individuals in this case, including Delhi Police Inspector Pradeep Singh. During the operation, the agency seized approximately ₹2.5 million in trap money, along with ₹9 million in cash and several important documents.
The CBI has also conducted searches at multiple locations linked to IPS officer Deepak Gehlawat. During these searches, the agency confiscated various digital devices, hard drives, and crucial documents, which are currently under examination.
The CBI stated that the investigation is ongoing, and all aspects are being thoroughly examined. The agency is working to determine who else may be involved in this alleged bribery and influence-peddling case, as well as the role of the entire network.
