Mangalore, March 22: Amid global supply chain disruptions, a large cargo ship carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the United States has arrived at India’s Mangalore port.
The vessel, named Pyxis Pioneer, docked at the port with LPG sourced from Texas.
According to NDTV, another ship carrying crude oil from Russia has also reached Mangalore. This vessel was located approximately 18 nautical miles from the port. A single-point mooring system will be utilized to transport the oil via pipeline to MRPL.
The arrival of this Russian crude oil follows the issuance of a temporary general license by the United States, allowing the sale of Russian crude that had been stranded at sea since March 12. This move aims to stabilize global fuel prices amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Following the U.S. authorization, India has significantly increased its purchases of Russian crude oil. This decision comes in response to supply concerns due to disruptions in oil supplies linked to conflicts in the Middle East.
Previously, two other ships, Nanda Devi and Shivalik, also delivered LPG to India. The Nanda Devi arrived at the Vadinar port in Gujarat, while the Shivalik docked at Mundra port. Both vessels navigated perilous routes through the Hormuz Strait amid ongoing conflicts involving Iran, the U.S., and Israel, which have disrupted maritime routes.
Currently, there are 22 Indian-flagged vessels and 611 Indian sailors present in the Gulf region. The Directorate General of Shipping is monitoring the situation in coordination with ship owners, RPSL agencies, and Indian missions.
