Surat Police Enhances Security for Navratri Celebrations with Special Teams and Technology
Surat police ramp up security for Navratri, deploying special teams and AI technology to ensure safety during celebrations.

Surat, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : As the Navratri festival approaches, Surat police are on high alert to bolster security across the city. Special attention is being given to the major Garba events taking place in the Dumas region. The police administration has devised a comprehensive security plan utilizing advanced technology and dedicated patrol teams.
DCP (Zone-7) Shefali Barwal (IPS) reported that robust security measures have been implemented at three major commercial Garba grounds and two domes in the Dumas area. More than ten police teams are actively monitoring the region through cross patrols, foot patrols, and bike patrols. Surprise checking teams have also been deployed to deter suspicious activities.
In a new initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of women and children, a “Mobile Help Desk” has been launched. This team, consisting of two female police officers on bikes, will patrol the area to assist anyone who may become separated from their family or require emergency help during the festivities.
With late-night Garba events in mind, security operations have been divided into two main areas. Officers stationed inside the domes are responsible for maintaining peace and security within the premises, while teams outside focus on traffic management, law enforcement, and monitoring for antisocial behavior. Regular patrols are also being conducted to investigate any suspicious activities.
To further enhance safety for women, Surat police’s She Team is actively present in traditional attire within the Garba pandals, observing the crowd. Uniformed female officers are also engaged in maintaining security. These teams are particularly vigilant against harassment and inappropriate behavior, taking immediate action upon receiving reports of suspicious activities.
This year, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is also being introduced for crowd control and monitoring. AI cameras have been installed at key Garba locations, providing live footage directly to the police control room. These cameras utilize foot-count technology to accurately track the number of attendees entering the domes each hour, enabling police to assess crowd conditions and enhance security measures as needed.
By focusing on technology, special patrol teams, and women’s safety, Surat police are well-prepared to ensure that the Navratri celebrations are both safe and organized.
