Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson Meets HD Kumaraswamy and Piyush Goyal in New Delhi

New Delhi witnessed a significant diplomatic engagement as Canada’s Energy Minister Tim Hodgson arrived on a four-day visit to participate in India Energy Week (IEW) 2026. Following the event, Minister Hodgson held meetings with India’s Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

Sharing images on social media platform X, HD Kumaraswamy highlighted the discussions with the Canadian delegation led by Tim Hodgson. The focus was on exploring deeper cooperation in critical minerals, clean mobility, and advanced manufacturing sectors. Kumaraswamy emphasised that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, India is building a robust and future-ready industrial ecosystem aligned with the goals of a developed India by 2047 and net-zero emissions.

He further noted that the talks reviewed a joint cooperation framework and opportunities in electric vehicles, battery technology, and sustainable supply chains. Senior officials from both countries participated in the meeting, concentrating on clean mobility, electric vehicle ecosystems, and essential minerals collaboration.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal expressed his pleasure in meeting the Canadian delegation under Minister Hodgson’s leadership. He stated that the discussions revolved around strengthening India-Canada cooperation in energy security, critical minerals, renewable energy, and mutual growth and prosperity. Goyal also took the opportunity to showcase India’s new Parliament building, symbolising a blend of heritage and modernity, reflecting the spirit of New India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the fourth edition of India Energy Week 2026 on Tuesday. He described the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement as a landmark example of alignment between the world’s two largest economies. Addressing the delegates, PM Modi welcomed global participants to India for discussions on energy and sustainability, noting the event’s emergence as a global platform for dialogue and action.

The inauguration was attended by key figures including Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Canada’s Tim Hodgson, and senior ministers from Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Global South.

This three-day event brought together delegations from the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region, showcasing IEW’s growing influence in global energy diplomacy. The organisers expect participation from over 75,000 energy professionals representing more than 120 countries.
