Kurnool, October 24 (Daily Kiran) — A devastating road accident occurred near Ullindakonda Cross in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, early Thursday morning, when a Kaveri Travels bus travelling from Bengaluru to Hyderabad caught fire after colliding with a two-wheeler. The bus was completely gutted, and several passengers are feared dead.

According to preliminary reports, there were around 40 passengers on board at the time of the incident, which occurred around 3:30 a.m.. Witnesses said the bus caught fire moments after the collision, leaving the passengers trapped inside as the flames spread rapidly.
Out of the total passengers, 12 people managed to escape by breaking the emergency exit door, sustaining only minor injuries. They were rescued and shifted to Kurnool Government General Hospital. The bus driver and his assistant also escaped narrowly.
However, officials fear that up to 20 passengers may have lost their lives, though an official confirmation from the district administration is awaited. The remaining passengers reportedly could not get out as the fire engulfed the entire vehicle within minutes.
At the time of the accident, heavy rain was reported in the area, which made rescue operations difficult. Upon receiving the alert, police and fire services rushed to the scene and managed to douse the flames after a prolonged effort.
Most of the passengers were reportedly residents of Hyderabad. Bystanders and travellers passing on the highway stopped to help, with some transporting the injured to the hospital in their vehicles.
A passenger named Hema Reddy, travelling in another bus from Puttaparthi to Hyderabad, witnessed the fire and immediately alerted the police and district administration, leading to a swift rescue response.
Among the survivors identified are Ramireddy, Venugopal Reddy, Satyanarayana, Srilakshmi, Naveen Kumar, Akhil, Jashmitha, Akira, Ramesh, Jaysurya, and Subramanyam.
Rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing, and authorities are yet to provide the final casualty count.
