Patna, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Bihar government has announced plans to produce Usna rice in every district for the Kharif marketing season of 2026-27. The Food and Consumer Protection Department has begun preparations to maximize production across the state.
Minister Ashok Chaudhary stated that the government is continuously strengthening systems for the easy and transparent procurement of paddy from farmers. Necessary steps are being taken to ensure that each district is equipped to produce the maximum possible quantity of Usna rice.
He emphasized the effective use of technology to enhance monitoring of procurement, milling, and transportation. Direct monitoring of electricity consumption in mills and a GPS-based transport system will ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process. All rice mill operators are urged to complete their registration and procurement preparations within the designated time frame.
According to a notice from the Food and Consumer Protection Department, online registration for rice millers interested in participating in the Kharif marketing season’s paddy procurement program has commenced. The registration process began on August 16 on the official portal of the Bihar State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation, with the final date set for October 15.
The department has called on all rice mill operators to ensure they are ready for the upcoming procurement by preparing Usna rice in a timely manner and completing their registration within the specified period.
This year, mills engaged in paddy milling will be required to have operational electricity connections. Monthly electricity consumption data will be directly obtained from electricity distribution companies.
Similar to last year, the Indian government has made online registration, verification, and GPS tracking mandatory for vehicles transporting paddy and rice. Transportation will only be allowed using GPS-equipped vehicles. Document verification will be conducted through the Indian government’s Vehicle Sarathi portal, and mill premises will be geo-fenced. The GPS tracking of vehicles will be managed through the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) of the Bihar State Food Corporation.
