Bulldozer Demolishes Former Ministers Home in Jharkhand Amid Mining Dispute

Hazaribagh, March 19: In a significant move, the district administration and NTPC management jointly demolished the residence of former minister and Congress leader Yogendra Sahu in the Barkagaon police area of Hazaribagh district on Thursday.

The house, located in Joradag Jhumeri Tandi, opposite the Chatty Bariyatu coal mines, was brought down in the presence of magistrates and a large police force.

According to official sources, the land on which the house stood was acquired and allocated for mining activities. Clearing this area was deemed essential to ensure the smooth operation of coal production.

The administration stated that the concerned parties had received multiple notices instructing them to remove the encroachment. However, due to non-compliance, this action was taken. Officials emphasized that the decision was entirely lawful and aimed at maintaining uninterrupted mining operations.

Upon learning of the demolition, Yogendra Sahu’s daughter, Amba Prasad, a former Congress MLA from Barkagaon, arrived at the scene to protest against the administration and NTPC management. She alleged that her father’s home was destroyed without any compensation.

Amba Prasad noted that the matter regarding compensation is currently pending in court, yet the administration acted hastily. She also claimed that her mother, former MLA Nirmala Devi, was inside the house when the bulldozer was in operation, but officials ignored the situation. The former MLA plans to legally challenge this action, citing violations of the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act of 2013.

It is important to mention that tensions had been escalating between Yogendra Sahu and NTPC management in recent days. Following recent attacks on company employees and vehicles, the atmosphere had become tense. In response, the administration implemented strict security measures to carry out the demolition on Thursday. The operation proceeded without reports of significant conflict.

Currently, the situation in the area is reported to be normal following the demolition, but this action has intensified political activity.
