Budget Boosts India’s Manufacturing and Technology Ecosystem: Electronics Industry

New Delhi: The electronics industry has welcomed the Union Budget 2026-27, appreciating its stable and inclusive approach aimed at strengthening India’s manufacturing and technology ecosystem through policy continuity, comprehensiveness, and targeted reforms.

The Electronics Industry body, ICEA, highlighted the announcement of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0 and the extension of the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). These initiatives are expected to reinforce domestic supply chains and value chains in the country.

ICEA also lauded the announcement of tax exemptions until 2047 for foreign companies providing global cloud services using India-based data centres. This was described as a visionary step that offers long-term policy certainty.

ICEA President Pankaj Mohindru said, “The Budget 2026-27 strengthens the government’s commitment to manufacturing-led growth, especially in electronics and semiconductors, through continuity, comprehensiveness, and focused reforms. The expansion of ECMS, support for ISM 2.0, and long-term incentives for cloud and data infrastructure signify strong strategic intent and policy stability.”

He further noted that the rapid growth in mobile manufacturing clearly demonstrates what can be achieved through bold and consistent policy measures.

IESA President Ashok Chandak described the Finance Minister’s statement on ISM 2.0 as a very important signal for India’s semiconductor ambitions. “It marks a clear shift from a fab-centric approach to a full value-chain strategy that includes equipment, materials, Indian intellectual property, and supply chain strengthening. This is crucial for India to evolve from a participant to a structural player in the global semiconductor ecosystem,” he added.

EEPC India Chairman Pankaj Chaddha said the Budget 2026-27 continues the government’s focus on infrastructure development, reforms, and local manufacturing, along with additional measures to support the MSME sector.

The Budget includes several key proposals such as the establishment of a Rs 10,000 crore SME Development Fund, a container manufacturing scheme, and the creation of a rare earth corridor.
