BSF Shoots Dead Pakistani Intruder at Samba International Border

Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel shot dead a Pakistani intruder attempting to cross into Indian territory along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Officials stated that late Sunday night, Indian soldiers at the International Border opened fire after spotting the intruder near the Ramgarh sector, Majra area, trying to enter Indian land from a border post.

The vigilant BSF troops challenged and warned the intruder. However, he ignored the warnings and moved towards the Indian border under the cover of darkness. In response, the soldiers fired shots, resulting in the intruder’s death.

Authorities confirmed that the deceased Pakistani citizen’s body lies on the Pakistani side near the International Border.

Border Security and Regional Overview

The International Border in Jammu and Kashmir spans 240 kilometres across Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts. The BSF is responsible for guarding the Indian side of this border, while Pakistani Rangers patrol the opposite side.

In addition to the International Border, Jammu and Kashmir has a 740-kilometre-long Line of Control (LoC) across districts including Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu. The Indian Army maintains security along the LoC.

Security Measures Against Infiltration and Smuggling

Both the Army and BSF are deployed to prevent infiltration, cross-border smuggling, and drone activities emanating from Pakistan. Terrorist groups, allegedly supported by the Pakistani military, use drones to deliver weapons, ammunition, cash, and drugs into Jammu and Kashmir.

These consignments are collected by overground workers of terrorist outfits and supplied to militants operating in the region.

Counter-Terrorism Efforts

The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with security forces, conduct ongoing anti-terror operations in the hinterlands. These campaigns also target smuggling networks, as funds generated from drug trafficking and hawala money are believed to sustain terrorism in the area.

Such coordinated efforts aim to strengthen border security and curb illegal activities threatening the stability of Jammu and Kashmir.
