BNP Acting Chief Tarique Rahman to Tour Northern Bangladesh from January 11

New Delhi: With just a month left for the elections in Bangladesh, political activities have intensified across the country. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, will begin his first tour outside Dhaka in the northern districts after returning to the country following 17 years.

According to Bangladeshi media reports, this four-day tour is scheduled to start on January 11 and conclude on January 14. Tarique Rahman will depart from Dhaka on the 11th and return on the 14th.

During the visit, he will cover nine northern districts. On January 11, he plans to visit Tangail, Sirajganj, and Bogura, where he will stay overnight. The next day, January 12, his itinerary includes Rangpur, Dinajpur, and Thakurgaon, with another overnight stay.

As part of this tour, Tarique Rahman will pay respects at the graves of notable figures such as Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, Shaheed Abu Said, the late Tayeba Majumdar, and others who lost their lives during the July movement and the long-standing democratic struggles.

He will also participate in prayer meetings and meet with families of the injured July fighters and martyrs. BNP sources have confirmed that district administrations and officials in the concerned areas have been officially informed about the visit.

Earlier, a letter signed by Tarique’s private secretary ABM Abdus Sattar was sent to district commissioners and officials in Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Bogura, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, and Kurigram. The letter emphasized that the tour will be limited to religious and social activities, including visits to graves and prayer meetings, and assured compliance with the Election Commission’s code of conduct without any violations.

This visit comes at a crucial time as political parties gear up ahead of the upcoming elections, reflecting BNP’s strategy to reconnect with grassroots supporters in northern Bangladesh.
