Lucknow, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, chairperson of the National Backward Classes Commission, recently commented on various political controversies during a press conference in Lucknow. She responded to Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav‘s AI-generated video of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Congress’s objections to ‘Vande Mataram‘, and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s proposed ‘Sanatan Swabhimaan Yatra’. Jyoti emphasized that political disputes should focus on ideology and development, rather than targeting personal lives or religious identities.
Regarding the AI-generated video of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Jyoti criticized the descent into personal attacks in political discourse. She stated that it is inappropriate to use AI to create videos that invade an individual’s private life, calling it disrespectful to the saint community.
In her remarks, Jyoti noted that political rivalry is a natural aspect of democracy. However, she insisted that leaders should engage in discussions about ideology and development rather than personal matters. She specifically objected to videos that target the saffron attire and ascetic lifestyle of leaders, asserting that criticism should be reserved for political policies rather than cultural symbols.
On the topic of Umar Abdullah singing ‘Vande Mataram’, Jyoti congratulated him and questioned the Congress party’s objections. She remarked that when leaders from the Muslim community honor ‘Vande Mataram’, it raises the question of why Congress leaders oppose it. Jyoti clarified that ‘Vande Mataram’ is not a religious hymn but a song that embodies national sentiment, recalling its significance during India’s freedom struggle when many sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Regarding Digvijaya Singh’s upcoming ‘Sanatan Swabhimaan Yatra’, Jyoti suggested it was more about the upcoming 2027 assembly elections than a genuine pilgrimage for the Sanatan faith. While she acknowledged the democratic right to hold rallies, she criticized the naming of the event, implying it was a political move rather than a spiritual one. She also remarked on the questionable past of some leaders supporting Singh, who have previously made controversial comments about Sanatan Dharma.
Addressing the discussions around restrictions on alcohol sales during Durga Puja in West Bengal and the entry of non-Hindus in Garba events in Maharashtra, Jyoti acknowledged the diverse worship practices among communities. She highlighted that Garba events often see significant female participation and raised concerns about disturbances caused by uninvited attendees. She stressed the need for caution regarding entry regulations at such gatherings.
