NDA-Backed Parimal Nathwani and JMMs Baijnath Ram Win Rajya Sabha Seats from Jharkhand

Ranchi, June 18: The results of the Rajya Sabha elections for two seats from Jharkhand have been announced. Baijnath Ram, the candidate from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and independent candidate Parimal Nathwani, backed by the NDA, have emerged victorious. In contrast, the Congress-supported candidate, Pranav Jha, faced defeat.

Although the official announcement of results is pending, Parimal Nathwani took to social media to express his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the NDA and BJP for their support.

According to the vote count, JMM candidate Baijnath Ram secured 31 votes, while BJP-supported Parimal Nathwani received 28 votes. Two votes cast in their favor were declared invalid. Congress’s Pranav Jha garnered 21 votes, with one vote canceled. Thus, both the India alliance and NDA-backed candidates claimed one seat each in the Rajya Sabha.

Parimal Nathwani stated on social media that being elected as a Rajya Sabha member for the fourth time is a matter of pride and responsibility for him. He noted that this will be his third term representing Jharkhand, having begun his parliamentary journey in 2008 from the same state.

Nathwani expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, BJP leadership, and the NDA, affirming his commitment to work diligently for the interests and development of Jharkhand. Prior to the voting, all 81 legislators exercised their voting rights in the assembly premises.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren and key leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties participated in the voting. The last vote of the day was cast by JMM leader and minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu. The voting concluded peacefully, and the counting of votes began late in the evening, with results announced shortly thereafter. Political circles showed significant interest in the Rajya Sabha elections.

The India alliance fielded Baijnath Ram from JMM and Pranav Jha from Congress, while Parimal Nathwani contested as an independent candidate supported by the NDA. Both factions held meetings and strategic exercises to keep their legislators united before the voting.
