No Eclipse on Raksha Bandhan: Essential Rituals Before Tying the Rakhi

Prayagraj, August 27: Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the unbreakable bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie a protective thread, or Rakhi, around their brothers’ wrists, symbolizing their love and the brothers’ promise to protect them. This year, excitement for Raksha Bandhan is palpable, but it is also important to consider auspicious timings for the rituals. Astrologer Pandit Shipra Sachdev shared insights on this matter.

According to Pandit Sachdev, Raksha Bandhan falls on August 28 this year. The good news is that the Bhadrakali period will end on August 27, meaning there will be no negative influence on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Therefore, sisters can tie Rakhis throughout the day without any hindrance.

She noted that there will be a lunar eclipse on this day, but it will not be visible in India. As a result, the associated ‘sutik’ period will not apply, minimizing any direct impact. However, from an astrological perspective, the lunar eclipse may have some minor negative effects on horoscopes.

To counteract these effects, she recommended a special ritual. On Raksha Bandhan, the first Rakhi should be tied to Lord Shiva. As the deity who holds poison and the moon on his head, Lord Shiva is believed to dispel negativity.

Next, the second Rakhi should be tied to Lord Vishnu, followed by one for the guru. Only after these should the Rakhi be tied to the brother. Following this sequence is believed to alleviate financial issues and enhance positivity in the brother-sister relationship.

Regarding auspicious timings, the favorable period for Raksha Bandhan begins early in the morning. The first auspicious time lasts until 7:30 AM. The second best window is from 9:25 AM to 10:30 AM, during which tying the Rakhi is considered highly auspicious.

Astrologers advise against tying the Rakhi during Rahu Kaal, which this year occurs from 10:30 AM to 12:20 PM. It is best to avoid this time for the ritual.

Additionally, a good time is available from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM, after which Rakhis can be tied for the rest of the day without any concerns.
