Thiruvananthapuram, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The President of the Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rajeev Chandrasekhar, intensified his criticism of the V.D. Satheesan-led government on Wednesday. His remarks came in response to alleged security lapses during the visits of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan. Chandrasekhar warned that such incidents could strain the already delicate center-state relations.
Since Satheesan took office, the BJP has pledged to support the new state government in its efforts for welfare and overall development. Chandrasekhar noted that during Shah’s recent visit to Kerala, the central government made it clear it was willing to assist the state in any way possible.
He highlighted a specific incident that occurred in Kollam when Amit Shah was present, where two Kerala ministers were also in attendance. This referred to a protest by the Youth Congress that took place during Shah’s visit, which the BJP labeled as a “serious security breach.”
Chandrasekhar also pointed to another security-related incident during the Vice President’s visit to Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. He emphasized that both occurrences were significant and should not be dismissed lightly. He did not name the state minister he held responsible for the lapses.
The BJP leader stated that his party would raise these concerns with the state government. He insisted that the issue transcends political confrontation between the BJP and the state government. Furthermore, he underscored that any security lapse involving senior constitutional officials is a serious matter.
Chandrasekhar attempted to connect the issue to center-state relations, reiterating the BJP’s commitment to collaborate with the state government for Kerala’s development. However, he stressed that it is the state’s responsibility to ensure adequate security for visiting constitutional officials.
These comments surfaced amid ongoing political tensions between the BJP and the Congress-led state government, particularly regarding the protests against Home Minister Amit Shah. The BJP alleges that inadequate security allowed protesters to approach the convoy of the central minister closely. In contrast, police maintain that the protesters did not obstruct the convoy or breach security.
Chandrasekhar affirmed that the BJP would continue to address the issue and hold those responsible for the security lapses accountable.
