Lucknow, August 26: Pankaj Chaudhary, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Minister of State for Finance, has taken aim at the Samajwadi Party’s recent announcements regarding women’s welfare. He stated that as the assembly elections approach, the SP has resurfaced with what he calls a “box of false promises.” Chaudhary urged SP president Akhilesh Yadav to account for the state of women’s safety and law and order during his tenure before making new commitments.
Chaudhary emphasized that the same party, which faced serious questions about law and order and women’s safety during its governance, is now making grand claims about women’s respect, safety, and empowerment. He questioned why the SP government did not take concrete steps for women’s safety, better hospitals, colleges, and other essential services while in power.
He remarked that the people of Uttar Pradesh have not forgotten the SP’s history of broken promises and its governance record. He asserted that the electorate can no longer be misled by pre-election announcements and “electoral lollipops.” In the upcoming 2027 assembly elections, the public will hold the SP accountable for its political actions and past governance.
Chaudhary pointed out that while Akhilesh Yadav is promising an annual payment of 40,000 rupees to women, mothers and sisters in the state are directly asking him whether mere announcements before elections can ensure women’s respect and safety. He accused the SP of failing to take effective action against crimes committed against women and girls during its rule, allowing criminals and politically protected goons to thrive. He noted that there were allegations of inaction on complaints from women victims at police stations during that time.
Chaudhary also criticized the SP’s stance on women’s empowerment. He challenged Akhilesh Yadav to explain what his government did to provide real freedom and a safe environment for women while in power. He questioned why the SP opposed the central government’s historic initiative to ensure 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies. He asked if viewing women’s empowerment through the lens of caste and religion is the essence of the SP’s politics.
The BJP president highlighted that the BJP government has strengthened initiatives for women’s safety in Uttar Pradesh, such as Mission Shakti, women’s helplines, the Anti-Romeo squad, the deployment of female police officers, and stringent actions against criminals. He claimed that these efforts have enabled women in the state to move forward with security, respect, and confidence rather than fear.
Chaudhary stated that for the BJP government, women’s respect is not merely an election slogan but a continuous commitment to good governance, safety, and empowerment. He urged Akhilesh Yadav to account for his tenure before making new promises. Chaudhary concluded by saying, “Women in Uttar Pradesh are asking where their safety and respect were during your rule, and why this sudden concern for women has arisen just before the elections?” He asserted that in 2027, the public will clearly differentiate between the SP’s promises and its past record.
