Lucknow, August 26: Ahead of the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party has made significant announcements focused on women and girls. Party president Akhilesh Yadav, along with MP Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri, introduced the ‘Stree Samman Samriddhi Yojana,’ pledging annual financial assistance of ₹40,000 to every woman in the state.
Akhilesh Yadav stated that this amount would be increased if the party comes to power. Additional promises included providing laptops to girls who have completed their 12th grade, transportation facilities for female students, reopening 26,000 closed primary schools, and various commitments to enhance women’s safety. Dimple Yadav emphasized that the party prioritizes women’s respect and economic empowerment, linking the ‘A’ in PDA (People’s Democratic Alliance) to ‘half the population.’
She urged women not to be bound by outdated customs and social restrictions. Women should pursue their dreams with passion, and the party stands with them. Announcing the financial aid under the ‘Stree Samman Samriddhi Yojana,’ she reiterated that women would receive ₹40,000 annually if the Samajwadi Party forms the government in Uttar Pradesh.
Akhilesh Yadav remarked that the progress of the nation and state is impossible without the participation of half the population. He assured that the Samajwadi Party would work for women’s respect, safety, and economic independence. He also mentioned plans to increase the annual assistance in the future.
The party leader promised laptops for girls who pass their 12th grade, recalling that laptops were previously distributed during the Samajwadi government, which are still in use today. He criticized the BJP, claiming that those who do not understand technology are now talking about distributing tablets. Akhilesh Yadav also attacked the BJP government regarding women’s safety, stating that for them, women have merely become a political slogan.
He highlighted the 1090 women’s helpline and 102 ambulance service initiated during the Samajwadi government, asserting that substantial work was done for women’s safety and health facilities. He raised the issue of women’s reservation, questioning the delay in its implementation despite the law being passed. He demanded that women’s reservation be enforced in the upcoming elections, referencing incidents in Hathras and other areas as examples of injustice against women and girls in the state.
Akhilesh Yadav also announced transportation facilities for women and students, stating that women should become independent and assertive. Improvements would be made to transportation options, including free metro travel for students through a card system. He emphasized that the Samajwadi Party aims to connect people with progressive ideas, and PDA serves as a unifying slogan.
The party president criticized the UP government’s ‘Lokmata Ahilyabai Maatrushakti Yatra Yojana’ for elderly women, expressing confusion over how their plans seem to leak to the government. He asserted that the Samajwadi Party is a progressive party that adapts to time and circumstances. He connected PDA with the oppressed and marginalized, stating that those who suffer and are deprived are the essence of PDA.
He promised to reopen the 26,000 primary schools that were shut down and improve the conditions of Anganwadi centers. He also announced the revival of the bicycle scheme, pledging to provide bicycles to students as done previously. Regarding women’s facilities, Akhilesh Yadav called for the construction of better public toilets.
He suggested that public toilets should be respectfully named ‘Izzatghar.’ He questioned the politics surrounding women’s clothing, asserting that women should have the freedom to choose what to wear and how to live their lives. He affirmed that the Samajwadi Party will work to eliminate the sense of insecurity among women and grant complete freedom to half the population. The party’s announced financial assistance and other initiatives for women are set to be major issues in the upcoming assembly elections.
