Kolkata, June 29: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has adopted a strong stance on implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in West Bengal. BJP leader Rahul Sinha stated that Mamata Banerjee is now isolated and that the UCC will be enforced in Bengal.
Sinha remarked, “Mamata Banerjee is alone; what can she do? Both Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee are not in the assembly. The current assembly members are all against Mamata. She is now the leader of the smallest party; she has been expelled from the Trinamool Congress.”
He clearly stated, “I am saying directly that the Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in Bengal. Currently, UCC is in effect in three states; West Bengal will be the fourth. The country is one, the people are one, so the law should also be one.”
Sinha also criticized Mamata Banerjee, saying, “What good is a complaint from someone who lacks numbers? She claims to represent the Trinamool, but she has no support. She has neither legislators nor MPs. All TMC members have fled. They lost the elections, yet she still claims to be the Chief Minister. The Governor has pushed her out. If Mamata Banerjee values her self-respect, she should leave politics.”
BJP MLA Sarbari Mukherjee emphasized the necessity of UCC, stating, “UCC is crucial in Bengal. The demographics are changing; in border areas, our demographics have completely shifted, causing concern across the country. Just as the triple talaq was beneficial for Muslims, the UCC bill will provide similar advantages. The BJP and the West Bengal government are fighting for equality.”
BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar added, “Mamata had stated that UCC would not be implemented, but she is no longer in power, so it will be enforced. Our government is set to implement it, and discussions will begin tomorrow.”
