Siliguri, April 19: BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, labeling it as anti-women and anti-development. He supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements regarding women’s representation, asserting that the public has now clearly understood Congress’s mindset and policies.
Bhandari stated that the Congress party has consistently opposed reforms that could advance the nation. According to him, whenever discussions arise about women’s empowerment or significant reforms, Congress either attempts to obstruct them or outright opposes them. He noted that Congress has not maintained a positive stance on crucial issues like women’s reservation.
He further emphasized that when Congress was in power, it failed to take adequate steps to enhance women’s representation. The party has long postponed this issue, denying women a rightful place in politics. Bhandari asserted that the progress seen today is solely due to Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
The BJP spokesperson accused Congress of being rooted in dynastic politics and a mindset that hinders development. He alleged that Congress does not want poor, backward, and middle-class women to emerge in Parliament or politics, as this would expose their outdated political practices. He concluded that Congress’s real concern is not women’s empowerment but rather preserving its political image.
On the same issue, BJP candidate Sourav Sikdar from West Bengal also responded, targeting the Trinamool Congress. He pointed out that although Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a woman, questions regarding women’s respect and safety have persisted under her rule. This issue has intensified following the rejection of the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.
Sikdar expressed that this decision could impact the future of women and their political representation. He believes that without support for such bills, opportunities for future generations of women to advance in politics and society could be severely limited.
