New Delhi, August 16: The Delhi BJP‘s media chief and spokesperson, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, condemned the alleged harassment of a Dalit activist by Shrichand Vohra, husband of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor Hema, during a press conference on Sunday. Kapoor also raised concerns about Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s silence on the matter.
Kapoor, along with BJP’s chief spokesperson Anil Gupta, demanded immediate justice for AAP’s Dalit worker, Rakesh Kumar. They called for the return of his plot and the expulsion of Vohra and his wife from the party.
According to Kapoor, Shrichand Vohra has been a close associate of Kejriwal since the party’s inception and contested municipal elections from Jaitpur in 2017. His wife, Hema, was elected as a municipal councilor in 2022.
BJP leaders allege that in 2019, Vohra occupied Rakesh Kumar’s vacant plot in Jaitpur Extension under the pretext of establishing a private political office. After nearly a year, Kumar began requesting the return of his plot, but it is claimed that Vohra delayed the matter until 2022.
Following Hema’s election as councilor, Kumar reportedly faced harassment, which only ceased after an FIR was lodged with the police about two weeks ago.
Kapoor stated that in July 2026, when Kumar attempted to install an electricity meter on the first floor of his home, Vohra allegedly obstructed the electricity department from proceeding. He also accused Vohra of throwing Kumar’s belongings onto the street about three weeks ago.
Feeling distressed, Kumar approached the police to file a complaint. Following an investigation, the police have added charges related to the conspiracy to occupy the plot.
BJP leaders assert that if convicted under these charges, Vohra could face up to ten years in prison.
