BJP Protests Against Severe Water Crisis in Dhanbad

Dhanbad, May 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a vigorous protest on Monday against the severe drinking water crisis in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand. The demonstration took place outside the district collectorate, organized by both the urban and rural units of the party. Activists vocally criticized the state government’s policies, symbolically breaking earthen pots to express their outrage.

Leading the protest, Babulal Marandi, the leader of the opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, launched a verbal attack on the Hemant Soren government. He lamented that despite being surrounded by major rivers like Barakar and Damodar, the people of Dhanbad are still struggling for water.

Marandi emphasized that the central government is committed to providing clean water to every household through the ‘Nal-Jal Yojana’ and has allocated sufficient funds for it. However, he accused the Jharkhand government of engaging in corruption within this scheme. He claimed that due to corruption and governmental negligence, many residents in the district are forced to drink contaminated water from ponds, ditches, and drains.

He reminded attendees that after the formation of Jharkhand, the BJP government undertook the historic task of bringing water from the Maithon Dam to Dhanbad. However, he criticized the current government’s inaction, which he said has worsened the situation.

The protest saw participation from newly elected MP Dhullu Mahto, former MP P.N. Singh, MLA Raj Sinha, Jharia MLA Ragini Singh, and Baghmara MLA Shatrughan Mahto, among other senior leaders.

Speakers unanimously noted that the water table in the district is continuously declining, and hand pumps have run dry, yet the administration remains inactive. BJP leaders warned that if water supply is not ensured soon, the movement will escalate. Hundreds of party workers and local citizens, including BJP leader Tara Devi, urban president Shravan Rai, and rural president Mohan Kumbhkar, were present at the event.
