Kolkata: The dispute over the special intensive revision (SIR) of the West Bengal voter list continues to escalate. On Saturday, BJP MLA Debjit Government targeted the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government and called upon Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to personally come to Bengal and assess the ground realities.
Call for CEC’s On-Ground Visit
Speaking to reporters, BJP MLA Debjit Government said, “Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar should come to West Bengal. He must visit areas where violence is occurring. Issuing instructions from Delhi alone will not help because the situation in Bengal has spiraled out of control. Law and order is non-existent, and no one here seems to respect the Constitution.”
Allegations Against TMC Government
Debjit Government further accused the TMC government, stating, “When the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was conducting operations on a private agency, files and laptops were forcibly taken away under the Chief Minister’s orders. Meanwhile, ruling party MLAs and cabinet ministers openly incite rebellion against Hindus. What more needs to be seen? It is imperative that Gyanesh Kumar and representatives of the Supreme Court come here to witness the prevailing conditions in West Bengal.”
Criticism of TMC Leadership and Electoral Prospects
The BJP leader also criticised TMC general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee’s virtual meetings, remarking, “Let them continue with virtual meetings. TMC members themselves are calling him a thief. There is dissent against Abhishek Banerjee within the party, forcing him to conduct meetings virtually as he is not fit to attend in person. In the upcoming assembly elections, the people of Bengal will defeat the TMC and bring the BJP government to power.”
