Patna, April 5: Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a media interaction in Patna on Sunday. He accused her of having a dual face in her political dealings.
Owaisi’s comments came in response to the Trinamool Congress releasing its election manifesto in Urdu for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. He highlighted that last year, the High Court annulled five lakh certificates for backward classes, affecting nearly three lakh Muslim certificates. He questioned the lack of discussion on this issue while Banerjee focuses on her Urdu manifesto.
He pointed out that Muslims make up 29 percent of West Bengal’s population, yet only 7 percent hold government jobs. The dropout rate among Muslim students is alarmingly high, and literacy rates are significantly low. Regions like Malda and Murshidabad are grappling with severe poverty.
Owaisi also raised doubts about the formation of a grand alliance government in Bihar, sarcastically asking if it was actually happening. He remarked that during the Rajya Sabha elections, the situation was already chaotic. He noted that similar claims made during the Bihar elections had little impact on the electorate. He expressed skepticism about the ongoing elections in other states as well.
As the West Bengal Assembly elections approach, all parties are intensifying their efforts. The competition between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP is expected to be fierce. Owaisi has also entered the fray by allying with Humayun Kabir’s party, which was expelled from the TMC. The political landscape is heating up, especially following the TMC’s release of its manifesto in Urdu.
