Bhopal, June 3: A statement by BJP legislator Rameshwar Sharma has ignited a new controversy amid the political debate surrounding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Madhya Pradesh. Sharma, who has been elected from the Huzur Assembly seat for the third consecutive time, remarked that changes in the demographics of various regions are creating an atmosphere of tension and fear due to the growing Muslim population.
Speaking to reporters, Sharma emphasized that the increasing population of a particular religion is impacting the social structure in many areas. This situation makes issues like the UCC and population control even more significant.
The BJP legislator noted that there is a growing demand across the country that families should not have more than three children. He suggested that strict measures should be considered against those with excessive offspring.
Sharma also referenced former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stating that she had stressed the need for family planning. He urged the Congress party to support the government on this issue instead of spreading confusion among the public. He called for a positive role regarding population control and the UCC.
He appealed to Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh to support efforts to implement the UCC in the state. He clarified that this initiative is not against any community but is a crucial step towards ensuring equal laws for all citizens.
It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently announced that the UCC will soon be implemented in Madhya Pradesh. On Monday, he stated that his government is committed to the UCC and is seeking suggestions from the public and legal experts regarding its implementation.
CM Yadav further mentioned that the current system of religion-based personal laws in marriage and family matters is no longer necessary, and the state requires a Uniform Civil Code. The state government is engaging in extensive consultations before drafting the UCC bill.
