BJP Leaders Criticize Congress Over Emergency Violations

New Delhi, June 24: BJP leaders have voiced strong criticism of the Congress party regarding the Emergency imposed on June 25, 1975. They described this day as a dark chapter in India’s democratic history. Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon, who is also co-in-charge of Himachal BJP, stated that the Emergency marked the murder of democracy. On this day, a decree was issued to suppress the press, and individuals raising social and political concerns were imprisoned. Forced sterilizations occurred, and political figures were jailed under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) for 19 months.

Tandon expressed concern that today’s generation may not be aware of the events of 1975. He emphasized that these atrocities occurred under the leadership of Indira Gandhi during Congress’s rule. He remarked that it is ironic for Congress to speak about democracy when they are responsible for its suppression. “We know how people were tortured in jails,” he said.

He further noted that the Allahabad High Court had annulled Indira Gandhi’s election. Instead of stepping down and contesting her case in the Supreme Court, she declared a state of Emergency, putting the entire nation at risk and imprisoning many.

Tandon pointed out that constitutional amendments were made to ensure that elections for the President, Vice President, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, and Prime Minister could not be challenged. He urged citizens to be aware that the Congress party’s foundation is rooted in the murder of democracy.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stated that the Congress party attempted to undermine the Constitution at midnight on June 25 to save their power. He called it a stain on Congress that can never be erased. The public has punished Congress for this act. Those who advocate for the Constitution should apologize to the nation for how they curtailed people’s fundamental rights under the guise of Emergency.

Naqvi added that Congress had trampled on the values and sanctity of the Constitution, imprisoning millions. He recounted his own experience of being jailed at the age of 17, enduring torture alongside many young people. He asserted that millions lost their lives during this dark period, a criminal stain that Congress can never erase. They must seek forgiveness from the nation for their sins.
