BJP Leader Jaiveer Shergill Visits Sukhbir Singh Badal, Wishes for Quick Recovery

Chandigarh, August 16: BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill met with Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday to inquire about his health.

In a post on the social media platform X, Shergill expressed his wishes for Badal’s swift recovery. Badal has suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment, having received 150 stitches.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, a former Deputy Chief Minister, was discharged from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. He had been admitted following an attack at a Gurudwara in Nanded, Maharashtra.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a Member of Parliament from the Shiromani Akali Dal, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the attacks. She shared images of the ‘kirpan’ used in the assault and of the injured hand.

On Thursday, a person dressed as a Nihang attacked Sukhbir Badal at the Nanded Gurudwara. This incident follows an attempted attack on him outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar in December 2024.

Harsimrat described this as a significant conspiracy and raised questions about the Punjab Police and the AAP government. She alleged that the suspect from the 2024 attack is still at large and is linked to the ISI.

In her letter, she expressed concern that there is an attempt to normalize violence based on political and religious grounds. She stated that repeated violent incidents at sacred places like Gurudwaras not only hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community but can also damage the image of Punjab and the nation.

She emphasized that Punjab is a border state and has always been a sensitive area from a national security perspective. If there is any involvement of extremist, inter-state, or foreign networks, a thorough investigation is essential. These incidents cannot be dismissed as mere law-and-order issues.
