Agartala, April 6: Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the only viable option for ensuring development in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
While addressing an election rally in Dhalai district, the Chief Minister stated that the BJP, currently in opposition in the TTAADC, does not need to form alliances with parties like the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) to progress.
He mentioned that the ‘resolution letter’ released for the TTAADC elections reflects the aspirations of the people. If genuine development is to be achieved in tribal areas, there is no alternative to the BJP.
Criticizing the Tipra Motha Party, the Chief Minister questioned its origins and alleged that many of its members are linked to the communist movement. He also condemned previous governments, claiming that decades of leftist rule had led to violence and unrest in the state.
The Chief Minister accused regional parties of engaging in divisive politics, stating they lack a clear ideology. Their approach is based on division rather than development. Reaffirming the party’s commitment to democratic values, he stated that democracy cannot thrive on fear or oppression. People should be united through dialogue and transparency.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister released the BJP’s ‘resolution letter’ at the party’s TTAADC headquarters in Khumulwng, outlining 29 key promises ahead of the council elections. He expressed confidence that the BJP is on track to form the TTAADC government for the first time.
He described this as a historic moment, focusing on infrastructure development, peace, and the welfare of tribal communities. The Chief Minister noted that significant funds have been allocated for ADC areas under the double-engine government. He highlighted improvements in infrastructure, drinking water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and efforts to rehabilitate the Reang refugees who fled ethnic unrest in neighboring Mizoram.
