Tejashwi Yadav Announces Protests to Defend Democracy in Bihar

Patna, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Bihar’s opposition leader and national executive president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Tejashwi Yadav, leveled serious accusations against the Election Commission and the central government on October 5. He announced that the India Alliance would unite to stage a movement aimed at protecting democracy. This declaration came during a meeting of the opposition coalition in Patna, where strategies for upcoming protests and demonstrations were thoroughly discussed.

Addressing a joint press conference, Yadav mentioned that a meeting of the India Alliance held in Delhi had decided to conduct programs and demonstrations at the block level from October 2 to 8. Following this, a delegation of alliance leaders aims to meet with the President. Plans are also underway for large public gatherings and rallies at four to five key locations.

Yadav alleged that the roots of electoral fraud began in Bihar. He accused the Election Commission of bias and claimed it operates in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He specifically targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging he was used to help the BJP win elections. Yadav pointed out instances where living individuals were removed from the voter list and declared deceased.

He noted that his party had raised such issues in the Supreme Court, particularly concerning cases linked to Raghopur. Yadav emphasized that the opposition has consistently questioned the Election Commission’s functioning. He further accused the Commission of reducing the retention period for electoral records from one year to just 45 days, compromising the preservation of evidence related to alleged irregularities.

Yadav also raised concerns over the selection panel for the Chief Election Commissioner, questioning the removal of the Chief Justice of India and the inclusion of a central minister. He claimed that money was allegedly distributed during elections, with funds transferred to people’s accounts, yet the Election Commission failed to take effective action. He asserted that not all political parties were given equal opportunities.

The press conference was attended by various leaders, including Mukesh Sahni of the VIP party, Dhirendra Jha from CPI (ML), IP Gupta of the IP party, CPI Secretary Ramnaresh Pandey, CPI (M) MLA Ajay Kumar, and Kapil Dev Prasad from the Congress party. Discussions focused on effectively implementing the India Alliance’s joint programs in Bihar and ensuring active participation from all coalition members.

Yadav announced that on October 7, leaders and workers of the India Alliance would hold protest marches against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in every block. On October 8, demonstrations will take place at all district headquarters. In Patna, legislators, former legislators, public representatives, and senior leaders will march from the assembly to the Raj Bhavan in an effort to meet the Governor.

He proposed that one of the major rallies be held in Patna. Yadav emphasized that their primary demand is for free and fair elections, ensuring equal opportunities for all parties. He criticized the rising unemployment, inflation, and poverty in Bihar, along with the deteriorating law and order situation. He concluded by stating that the fight to protect democracy and the Constitution will be a collective effort among all opposition parties.
