While the monsoon has yet to officially make landfall, its early effects are already being felt, bringing both relief and disruptions to daily life in several parts of the state.
Pre-Monsoon Showers and Increased Humidity Across Bihar
Over the past few days, many districts in Bihar have witnessed intermittent showers. While some regions are grappling with humid conditions, others are facing thunderstorms and gusty winds. According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, cloud cover will persist across most parts of the state, with wind speeds reaching up to 30 km/h.
Light to moderate rain is likely in districts such as Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Arwal, Jehanabad, Buxar, Bhojpur, Siwan, Gopalganj, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Jamui, Banka, Munger, Madhepura, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Katihar, and the state capital Patna. The IMD forecasts that maximum temperatures will range between 36°C and 40°C, with a gradual rise of 2 to 4 degrees over the next two days in many regions.
Buxar Records Highest Temperature
Among all districts, Buxar recorded the highest temperature on Friday at 38.5°C, making it the hottest spot in the state. However, officials predict relatively stable temperatures across the state over the next 24 hours.
Friday also saw heavy rainfall in districts including Patna, Motihari, Bhagalpur, and Gopalganj. The state received 17% more rainfall than normal, indicating stronger-than-usual pre-monsoon activity.
Thunderstorms and Lightning Expected Through June 12
The Meteorological Centre in Patna has issued a warning for thunder, lightning, and strong winds across most parts of Bihar from June 10 to June 12. During the past 24 hours alone, rainfall was recorded in Kishanganj, Katihar, Bhabua, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Siwan, Samastipur, Bhojpur, and Araria.
In Patna, 1.5 mm of rain was recorded, with the capital registering a maximum temperature of 35.3°C. While the temperatures remain within seasonal norms, the weather department has advised residents to stay alert, especially during storm periods, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
Citizens Advised to Stay Updated
Authorities have urged people to monitor local weather advisories and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas vulnerable to lightning strikes and flooding. With the official arrival of the monsoon likely just days away, this period of pre-monsoon instability is expected to persist.
