Patna – With the monsoon gaining strength across Bihar, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather alert for the next few days. While the rains have brought relief from intense heat in some areas, others are grappling with waterlogging, flood-like conditions, and disrupted daily life.
According to the latest IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in several districts of Bihar through July 3, 2025.
Heavy Rainfall Predicted in These 8 Districts
As per the IMD bulletin, very heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected in the following districts:
Nawada
Gopalganj
Siwan
Sitamarhi
Nalanda
Sheikhpura
Munger
Begusarai
Residents in these areas are advised to stay indoors during periods of intense rain and avoid venturing out unless necessary. Flash floods, traffic disruptions, and power outages are likely.
Extended Rain Alert Till July 3
A widespread rain alert has also been issued for the following districts till July 3:
Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Arwal, Patna, Aurangabad
Gaya, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Munger, Jamui
Banka, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj, Supaul
Madhepura, Saharsa, West Champaran
These areas may witness heavy downpours with lightning and thunderstorm activity, increasing the risk of flooding, landslides (in low-lying and riverbank areas), and infrastructural damage.
Flood-like Situation in Several Areas
Continuous rainfall in the past few days has led to flood-like conditions in several parts of Bihar. Waterlogging has severely affected transportation and local businesses in urban and semi-urban regions.
Authorities have been put on high alert, and disaster management teams are monitoring vulnerable zones. People living near rivers and drainage systems are urged to remain vigilant and relocate if advised.
Humidity Lingers in Rain-Deficit Areas
Despite early monsoon showers, some districts continue to battle humid heat due to inconsistent rainfall patterns. The IMD noted that parts of Bihar have received 34% less rainfall than normal, adding to discomfort in these regions.
The current spell of rain is expected to ease humidity and restore monsoon normalcy across the state.
