Bihar Government Responds to Supreme Court Ruling Affecting Over 260,000 Teachers

Patna, June 14: The recent Supreme Court ruling regarding teachers has put the future of over 260,000 educators in Bihar at risk. In response, the Bihar government is currently conducting a thorough review. A meeting of the education department is scheduled for Monday to discuss the implications of this ruling.

The Supreme Court has mandated that teachers in government schools must pass a qualifying examination, raising concerns about the job security of approximately 260,000 teachers in the state.

Bihar’s Education Minister, Mithilesh Tiwari, stated that the government’s legal team is analyzing the court’s order. He emphasized that the government will determine its next steps after reviewing all legal and technical aspects of the ruling. A detailed meeting with officials from the higher education department and experts will also take place on Monday to deliberate on this matter.

Tiwari assured that the government will comply with the Supreme Court’s decision. He reiterated that the aim is to strengthen the education system in Bihar. A comprehensive study of the court’s order is underway, and a final decision will be made only after obtaining legal advice. Prior to that, various options and potential impacts will be discussed at the departmental level.

He also clarified that the government is not rushing into any decisions. In fact, the process for teacher appointments has been expedited. The government is preparing to conduct the TRE 4 examination for teacher recruitment in July. The education minister confirmed that requests for subject-wise vacancies have been made.
